Read this before you buy an AI course or start an "AI business" you saw on social media. I work in cybersecurity, where spotting manipulation is the job. These are the patterns that should make you close the tab.
The 10 red flags
Income screenshots without costs. Revenue is not profit. If the number on screen never mentions ad spend, tool costs, refunds or time, it is marketing, not evidence.
The word "passive" doing heavy lifting. Every real online income stream took months of unpaid work first. "Passive from day one" is a lie by construction.
The seller earns from the course, not the method. Ask: if their AI business prints money, why are they selling you the manual? Sometimes there is an honest answer. Usually there is not.
Manufactured urgency. Price doubles at midnight, only 7 spots left, bonus expires. Scarcity theatre exists to stop you thinking. Real education does not expire.
Guaranteed numbers. "$10k/month guaranteed" is a claim no honest person can make about your results. Platforms ban income guarantees in ads for exactly this reason.
The method dies on contact with math. Faceless channel promises rarely mention monetisation eligibility thresholds, typical RPMs, or how many uploads the average channel needs before its first dollar. Run the numbers and the dream usually shrinks.
Unverifiable testimonials. First names and stock-photo faces. Search the person. If they only exist inside the sales page, they do not exist.
"AI does everything" positioning. If AI did everything, the opportunity would already be saturated by people better resourced than you. AI compresses work; it does not delete it.
The upsell ladder. The $27 course exists to sell the $497 course, which exists to sell the $2,000 mastermind. Check what past buyers say happened after the first purchase.
Pressure to pay through unrecoverable channels. Crypto only, gift cards, or DMs to "secure your spot". In security we call this what it is.
The 5 checks before you pay for anything
Search "[name] scam" and "[name] refund" and read page two, not just page one.
Find one person outside the seller's ecosystem who verifiably used the method.
Write down the full cost stack: course, tools, ads, and your hours at any wage.
Ask what happens in month one if it fails. No refund terms in writing means the answer is nothing.
Try the free version of the method for two weeks first. Almost every AI side hustle can be tested for $0 with free tiers. If you will not do it free, you will not do it paid.
The honest rule: some people really do make money with AI. The ones who do treat it as a business with costs and slow months, not a hack. If a stranger's video is the only place an opportunity exists, the opportunity is the video.
